It’s time to get UP CLOSE & PERSONAL with…
Happy Tuesday beauties! It’s #TalentTuesday here at THE MANAGEMENT and today I have this lovely lady named KELSI COFIELD!
Kelsi is a freelance model that I met a few months back while I myself was modeling for a really good friend’s clothing company! Kelsi was just such a great person to be around and we got along so well that I decided I totally had to reach out to her for an interview!
She is such a sweet and genuine person & those are both qualities that are KILLER to have! I asked Kelsi some questions about herself and also about her modeling, so here you go! Here is my interview with my friend, and freelance model… KELSI COFIELD.
Tell us a little about yourself.
This question always throws me off, I never know what to tell people! I exist within a large range of hectic chaos including teaching Monday through Friday, and modeling nights and weekends! I’m a conundrum, I love spending whatever extra time I have with my friends and husband but I also LOVE my alone time! Call it the outgoing introvert in me. I love writing, it’s truly the medium I think keeps my head above water most of the time. I drink far too much coffee and stay up way too late. I am also completely obsessed with anything related to the moon or night in general, there’s such a beautiful loneley romantic-ness to it all.
What company do you model for and for how long?
I never really pursued agencies but I have been freelance modeling off and on for 7 years. I started doing it quite regularly just within the past 3 years though!
Why did you want to become a model?
To be honest, I didn’t want to become a model for a long time! My whole life everyone always told me I should but it seemed to cliche to me. I even got scouted by Ford modeling agency when I was 14 at a mall but my parents weren’t fans of the industry and so I never pursued it! It wasn’t until my best friend started photographing professionally and asked me to model for her to build her portfolio that I realized how much I love it! One shoot and it was the end of me right there.
So you’re also a teacher, how it is balancing that and modeling?
I teach preschool so I prep four year old tiny humans for kindergarten! I ADORE it! It doesn’t feel like work it’s just a daily adventure, haha. Balance in life at all is hard but working full time and existing within the demands of the fashion and commercials world is an entirely different beast. Thank God i’m a night owl because I don’t sleep very often. Because I love modeling I slip in shoots and shows and castings whenever I have a free moment, which leaves me generally no moments left, and that can be exhausting. I basically need at least two days a month to just crash and sleep for 12 hours….but mostly I don’t have time for that..ha. It’s a great goal to have though.
What is on your playlist as of now?
My playlist is all over the place but I am currently going through a soul jarring Sam Smith/John Legend/Ed Sheeran phase.
How would you describe your personal style?
My personal style is honestly all over the place. I wear whatever I feel comfortable in for whoever I decide I want to be that day. My husband will NEVER buy me clothes because he says he can’t ever keep up with what I’m mooding style wise haha. I range from preschool teacher to hippie gypsy moonchild to 90’s grunge to old Hollywood…there’s really no definition for my closet beyond “not enough room”.
Who inspires you every day?
To be honest the people closest to me inspire me constantly! I hold onto the people I love, they are truly an extension of myself! I am continuously amazed by their ability to fight through their spectrum of battlefields in life and come out stronger and even more beautiful than before! Each of the people in my life are so vastly different I think I gather different inspirations from each of them! My husband is the most considerate understanding and care taking person I know. I love that I am surrounded by such a variety of people and we are all amazing and talented in different areas! Which makes for an incredibly strong force to be reckoned with, and also just generally inspires me to be the best me I can.
What advice would you give to other girls who are trying to become models?
To be perfectly honest in an industry so cut throat and often shallow, I would just say make sure you are ready. Know who you are and be ok with that before you go out to be publicly judged and critiqued by the “leading opinions” that determine your success or failure. I think in a world set into motion by social media, the idea of modeling is so tantalizing. Everyone wants to feel beautiful and pampered but modeling is A LOT of hard work! It’s a lot of waiting and a lot of rejection and long days and despite your ignorant opinion, not a lot of cash until you make a name for yourself. At the heart of it all, every woman is incredibly beautiful and has amazing talents and amazing possibilities within themselves! Your worth is endless so as you go through the process of building your portfolio or being rejected or signed by agencies, just remember to enjoy the ride and each step is just helping to build you into the you that’s going to kick the world’s ass one day! Success is inevitable, but be open to the possibility that your success might look different than you planned.
As you can see and read above, KELSI is such an amazing inspiration! She truly works hard in life and it definitely pays off!
